Education

I gained my MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grace College in Winona Lake, IN, graduating in May, 2021. I have done training for EMDR therapy as well as advanced trainings in addictions and trauma. I am also trained in motivational interviewing.

License:

Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

Experience:

I have been working for the past 4 years in the co-occurring mental health and addictions treatment field in an outpatient non-profit agency working with adults and some couples. I have experience working with depression, anxiety, mood-related disorders, trauma, borderline personality disorder, grief, spiritual concerns, career guidance. I have experience using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), Adlerian, and motivational interventions in helping clients change their lives for the better.

Personal statement:

When I work with a client, their world and concerns are my primary focus. I focus on helping clients determine their values, their focus and mission in life, and finding ways to navigate the realities of their situation to live it more fully and smoothly. People tend to get stuck for a variety of and/or combination of reasons: their own mental health struggles, difficulties navigating relationships, the hardships and traumas of life experiences leaving their marks, challenging systems to navigate, addictions, as well as lack of clarity of who they are and what they want to be about in life. People have, to varying degrees, needs in all these areas and if we can make a shift in one area, others can change as well. People do not have to do much in many areas to make improvements; often it is consistent maintained change in a few areas that promote their own growth and recovery. I have also helped some couples support one another when a partner has an addiction.

My goal is to help guide clients to develop more flexible and functional internal (see thinking tendencies) and external behavioral shifts and belief systems that are more adaptive, fair and realistic within their situation, and proactive and responsive for navigating and maintaining consistent progress. I help with managing difficult emotions, getting unstuck, healing one's relationship with oneself and others, and growing in greater acceptance of situations to be able to change what can be changed and learn to adapt to or limit exposure to what cannot be changed.
